Beauty During Quarantine

The beauty industry is booming now more than ever. The stocks are sold out and online website are selling out faster than the pages can load. Although people are “stuck” in their homes, they have not lost their sense of wanting to use beauty and skincare products. This time has called upon people to take that time for themselves to self-care which has caused more and more beauty companies to start-up and provide that supply for the increasing demand.

Just as people were running to the grocery stores to buy toilet paper, Clorox wipes, and whatever nonperishable foods they could get their hands on, consumers are clicking “add to cart” for cosmetics products. Products ranging from Dae’s Deep Conditioning Treatment to Drunk Elephant’s Polypeptide moisturizing cream to the Sky High mascara to Chanel concealer in 1N, 2N, and 3N were completely sold out and unable to be restocked quickly due to the demand being so high and the supplier most of the time being delayed in their production and shipping. Beauty editors from magazines like ELLE have created lists such as this one “20 Beauty Products ELLE Editors Can’t Stop Using in Self-Isolation” where they list their favorite “quarantine” beauty products and Goop who posted various quarantine beauty routines with products linked. I cannot imagine that articles such as this one help with this supply and demand issue, but they definitely help to draw attention to noteworthy products to look out for.

I found myself setting alarms on my phone and marking my calendar for product launches in order to be able to secure and try out the sought out items. Many others did the same, and I witnessed products selling out in seconds and minutes. As someone looking to enter the beauty industry, and eventually start my own cosmetics company, this pattern was exciting to me and gave me lots of hope that even in times of crisis, people found beauty products to be essential. Beauty products and services were even deemed to be essential in certain counties and states. It is essential to be taken care of. It is essential to self-care. It is essential to make other people feel how beautiful they are by supplying enhancing products or just products that make you feel good such as bath bombs, deep conditioners, and cuticle oil.

So mark your calendars, set your alarms, and get ready to “add to cart” this quarantine for a more beautiful, in stock beauty experience.
